How to hand a countdown to Reels

1. Export 9:16 before you think about the grid. The file is vertical. Instagram’s profile grid then crops a cover toward the center. Put the rank where a center crop still shows it.
2. Keep type out of the caption and the right-hand buttons. Reels covers the bottom with the username, caption, and audio, and the right with actions. The templates already inset the plate.
3. Leave uncleared music out of the MP4. Add a sound from Instagram at upload if you want one. The editor will not do that for you, and it will not remove a song you already baked in.
4. Upload the download. There is no Instagram login here. Remix, captions, and stickers are a second pass in the app if you need them.

What is specific to a Reel

The cover is a crop, not the video

A rank that looks fine in the phone preview can vanish in the profile grid if it sits in a corner the crop drops.

Length limits are not one number

Reels length depends on the account and whether you record in-app or upload. Plan the countdown for the ranks, then confirm the app will take the file.

Original audio is a choice

Voice and room tone from your clips can stay. A trending sound belongs to Instagram’s library, added after export.

An Instagram Reels countdown is still your clips in order. Instagram adds a cover crop, a caption stack, and an audio credit. ShortsRank does not log in, does not remix, and does not pick a trending sound. It exports the 9:16 movie you then upload.

Reels length is a poor thing to memorize as a single number. Some accounts record a short cap in the camera, some can go longer, and uploads of a pre-made file have moved over time. Check the composer on the account you will actually use. Then ignore the maximum. A countdown that exists to fill the maximum is a slideshow with numbers. Build the Top 3, Top 5, or Top 10 the footage earns, and only then see whether that file fits.

Player chrome versus grid crop

While the Reel plays, plan for coverage:

• Bottom: username, caption, and the audio row. A lower-third title that sits on the bottom fifth disappears into that stack.
• Right: like, comment, share. Long titles lose their last words there.
• Top: status and the following row. Do not park the rank on the top edge.

Slam and Board are built with that inset. You still have to write a short title. Two lines of cleverness will ellipsize into the wrong two words.

The profile grid is a second problem. It shows a cover, cropped tighter than the full vertical frame, biased toward the center. A huge number in the extreme corner can look correct in the editor and read as blank in the grid. Choose a cover frame — usually a sting — where the numeral sits inward enough that a center crop keeps it. If Instagram lets you scrub the cover, scrub to the rank, not to the prettiest unnumbered frame.

Stories are not this format. A Story card is a different crop and a different lifespan. Do not assume a Reel export is a Story.

What to put in the caption

The on-screen plate names the clip. The caption names the series, if the intro was too short to read, and optionally invites the argument about #2. Pasting all five titles into the caption publishes the ranking as text. Some accounts want the comments. Some want the wait. Pick one. Do not also burn that paragraph into the video.

Do not claim “most viewed on Instagram” unless you are looking at numbers you gathered and you have the rights to the pictures. This tool does not read Instagram analytics. “My top 5” is an honest series title. “Most viewed” is a different claim.

Sound

Two workable paths:

1. Export with the audio that is part of your clips — a voice, a room, a whistle — and keep original audio on when you upload.
2. Export without a music bed and add a sound inside Instagram from the library your account is allowed to use.

Do not download a trending sound from somewhere else and merge it into the file before upload. The editor will keep whatever you already put in the clip. It has no music browser and no claim check. Sample scenes are silent so you can judge the picture. Your files are not silent unless you made them silent.

Footage that belongs on this Reel

Film the thing. A product ranking of unboxings you shot, a best moments cut from your own long take, a sports phone clip from the sideline: those are Reels this maker can build. A screen recording of someone else’s Reel, with your number on top, is not.

Horizontal masters need a crop before import if the subject is not already in the center. The editor cover-crops to 9:16. It keeps the middle. It will not follow a player who stays on the left edge of a wide frame.

After export, stickers and auto captions are Instagram’s, if you want them. Put stickers where they do not cover the rank you just burned in. Rebuilding the countdown with manual text in a general editor is the long way around, which is the point of the CapCut comparison. The Shorts page is the sibling for a different shelf, not a second edit of the same advice.

Does ShortsRank post the Reel?

No. You download a vertical file and upload it in Instagram. The site does not connect to an account.

Should I design for the profile grid or for the Reel player?

For the player first: the rank has to be readable while the video plays. Then check a cover frame whose center still contains the number, because the grid crop is tighter than the player.

Can I rank other people’s Reels by screen-recording them?

No. Those pictures are not yours. Rank clips you filmed. A countdown does not create a license.

What if my account only accepts a short Reel?

Use the runtime tables on the Top 3 and Top 5 pages. A four-second Top 5 is about 25 seconds. If the app refuses the file, the refusal is Instagram’s limit for that account, not a failed export.
