How this countdown is built

1. Bring the clips. Add MP4, WebM, or MOV you already trimmed. The tab reads them locally. There is no prompt that invents the shots.
2. Pick 3, 5, or 10. That choice sets the runtime. The top card in the rail plays first and is the highest number.
3. Write the plate, not a script. Each hold gets a short title. Slam or Board burns the rank and the title. There is no voiceover track to time.
4. Export the vertical file. Keep the tab visible. You get a 9:16 movie and you post it yourself.

What a clip countdown is for

Viewers stay for the next rank. A topic sentence does not do that work if the pictures are stock.

You already filmed the list

Unboxings, misses, takes, and sideline clips are the countdown. The maker only orders them.

One file, three apps

The same export can go to Shorts, Reels, or TikTok. The apps cover different edges, which the platform pages cover.

“Countdown video maker” is a crowded search because two different jobs use the same words. One job is: type a topic, receive a narrated list, and hope the pictures match. The other job is: you already have five clips, and you want them played from the high number down to #1 with the rank burned in. ShortsRank is only the second job.

If you do not have the footage, this maker will not help you. The sample countdown exists so the layout is visible before you add files. It is not a substitute list.

What the timeline actually contains

Every countdown in this editor is the same machine, with a different count.

• An intro card, about 1.3 seconds, carrying the series title.
• A sting, just under half a second, that puts the next rank full frame.
• A hold of the clip, which you set per card between 2 and 8 seconds.
• An outro, a little over a second.

A Top 5 with four-second holds lands near 25 seconds. A Top 3 at the same hold is about 16 seconds. A Top 10 only stays comfortable if most holds are closer to two or three seconds. Those figures come from this timeline, not from a platform’s idea of a good length. The Top 5, Top 3, and Top 10 pages are where the pacing choice is the whole subject.

The two skins do not change the math. Slam is a dark field, a large cream number, and a title plate. Board frames the clip and puts the number above it like a chapter. Pick the one you can still read when the footage is busy. You cannot keyframe a logo across either of them.

What you are not assembling

A topic countdown usually needs a script, a voice, captions locked to that voice, and pictures from somewhere else. That stack can be the right tool when the video is an opinion and the camera roll is empty. It is a mismatch when the point is that these moments happened on your camera.

ShortsRank will not:

• invent a fifth clip because the format likes fives,
• write narration you then have to lip-sync,
• add a music bed,
• post the file to a channel,
• or rank other people’s videos by view count.

The useful promise is smaller. The order in the rail is the order in the file. The title on the card is the title on the plate. If the preview bores you, the export will bore you too.

Order is the edit

Add the files. The first one sits at the top of the rail and will play first, which means it becomes the highest number once the list is full. Drag the clip you are willing to wait for down to the bottom. That card is #1. A written list puts the winner at the top of the page. A countdown cannot, or it stops being a countdown.

Replace every filename before you judge the cut. “clip_0042” on the plate is a tell that the video was assembled and not considered. Name the situation: “Open-net miss,” “The heavy unbox,” “Still 0–0.” The plate wraps to two lines and then ellipsizes. If the title needs a paragraph, that paragraph belongs in the caption you write in the posting app.

Watch once with the sound off. Muted viewers are common, and the number plus the title have to carry the claim. Then watch once with sound. If a file contains a song you cannot clear, the export will contain it. There is no stem mute hiding in the button.

File in, file out

MP4 with H.264 video is the combination browsers agree on. WebM is fine. MOV from a phone sometimes is not — if the card says the browser could not decode it, the file is probably HEVC. Make an H.264 MP4 elsewhere and add that. The editor warns above 60 MB and refuses above 180 MB. It does not need the whole recording. It needs the hold.

Chrome and Edge try a real H.264 MP4. If that encoder is missing, the page says which file you got instead of swapping in silence. Keep the tab in front while the bar moves. Backgrounding the tab stalls the render. Cancel does not save a partial movie.

You still choose the cover frame and the caption, and you still upload in YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok. Those edges are different enough to have their own pages: Shorts, Reels, and a TikTok Top 10. Questions

Will this write a countdown from a topic I type?

No. Tools that turn “top 5 fastest animals” into a voiced video are a different product. ShortsRank starts when you add files.

Does the countdown include a voiceover and music?

No. Audio is whatever is inside each clip during its hold. The intro, stings, and outro do not add a soundtrack or a narrator.

Can I count up from #1 instead of down?

The rail plays from the top to the bottom, and the rank falls as it goes. Put the winner last. Counting up would spend the reveal in the first second.

How long is the finished countdown?

Intro and outro together are about two and a half seconds. Each rank adds a sting of just under half a second plus the hold you set, from 2 to 8 seconds. A Top 5 at 4 second holds is about 25 seconds.
